We went to see a lawer and he said that if someone had a influence on a child for 3 years or more,he's responsable for child support wether it's his or not.He never adopted him legaly, and he has being paying child support against his will since over a year now.Is that legal?

Re: paying child support for a kid that is not yours

In British Columbia if a person has contributed to the support of a child while living with the biological parent for at least one year, and the biological parent commences a claim against the former partner within a year of the separation, then the former partner is defined as a "parent" and is responsible for child support under th Family Relations Act. He will pay support until the child is 19 or leaves his educational pursuits, whichever is last - thus support can dcontinue to be paid until the child has finished University or trade shcool.

Not only is this legal, a responsible adult will gladly pay child support for a child to whom he has acted as a father figure for several years. If your present boyfriend thinks he should not pay support, you must ask yourself if you want to be with a man who denies his adult responsibilities.
