Re: subject

This answer is sepcific to British Columbia as noted on the LawGuru website. The father is always the father with rights and obligations. Until and unless a Court decrees otherwise, the child has a right to have a relationship with the father and vice-versa, and the father has the obligation to pay child support and the further moral obligation to keep a relationship with the child. As the custodial parent you have the legal obligation to sedulously foster a relationship between the child and the father, REGARDLESS of whether or not you personally want such a relationship between the two of them. If you think that such a relationsheip migh be not in the child's best interest you should see if a Court agrees and decides that the father should no have contact with the child, but until then, you must go out of your way to ensure the child and father have a relationship.
