Legal Question in Family Law in Canada

unpaid support owed to 21 year old

My son is now 21. In my divorce agreement, my son was to recieve money for education from his Candian father, in the form of Candian Savings Bonds. My ex was to buy Candian Savings bonds each and every year in the amount of $200.00 to be put in trust since the legal separation agreement in 1984, including the $500.00 bonds already started before birth. At age 18, my ex-husband was to assign and deliver to said child all accumulated bonds and interest held by him in trust for the said child. We are living in the USA and my ex is still in Canada. This never happened. My son and I have asked about the money many times. It is gone, we are told. He is now 21. What can we do, if anything?

Re: unpaid support owed to 21 year old

Please be advised that there is reciprocity between Canada and the USA, particularly with respect to child and spousal support matters, so you might not be entirely out of options.

But, the remedies and options available depends upon the terms of your stipulation, divorce findings and judgment and support provisions.

You need to consult an atttorney in both Canada and in the state where you obtained your divorce.

Good luck,
