As noted on the LawGuru website, all questions directed to this lawfirm must be answered with reference to British Columbia law. n BC, the age at which a person canmake decisions for her/himself is when the child turns adult; age 19. In practical tems if a child of around 14 or so wishes to live with a particular parent, has sensible reasons for doing so and can articulate them, and the parent with whom the child wishes to live is appropriate in the sense that he or she can properly care for and supervise the child, can set appropriate limits and see that they are observed, the Courts will rarely interfere although they certainly can.
