Legal Question in Immigration Law in Canada
Can I become a Canadian citizen?
I've been with my girlfriend for over a year and a half and we talked about getting married one day, but there's a problem. Back in 2005 I was on probation for domestic violence for 18 months, but that was my only conviction and I don't have a criminal record. Will that affect me becoming a citizen and trying to marry my girlfriend and if so what can I do?

Re: Can I become a Canadian citizen?
You would have to wait for 5 years after the conviction for domestic abuse to be able to apply for citizenship.
