Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Canada

patent protection

I have an idea (patent) I want to send my design to a company, it seems that to register the patent, it will take time and money and I have no money, I want something quick and legal and cheap to protect my idea until the company decides to support my patent or not, then I can register the patent officially, how can I do this please?

Re: patent protection

You need to file a provisional patent application.

Re: patent protection

While provisional patent applications are indeed available and are cheap to file (I think the USPTO charges something like $100 to file a provisional app), note that they are NOT examined by the US Patent & Trademark Office, and they expire one year after they are filed unless they are converted within that year to a non-provisional application. Treat a provisional application with the care it requires (i.e., pay attention to deadlines) and it can be very useful; mess up and you can lose your ability to obtain patent protection.
