Legal Question in Employment Law in Canada
Opportunity lost
An employee came to see me about an internal opportunity that was posted. I told him that I thought that he would be a good candiate for this position. As time went on, he was under the impression that he had got the job. During that time an incident occured that caused my decision to change and I told him that he was longer the best candicate for that job.
So he quit and he informed me to find someone else to replace his shift which was in the next few days.
He returned the next day requesting to speak to the president and theatened to sue the company for breach of a verbal contract, or requested compensation of 1 yr salary, or return to the company in the position which he wanted.
Do his legal threats hold any merrit? What can we do to protect ourselves legally?
Thanks.

I need to know where you are located. If this did not occur in Ontario, Canada, then I cannot advise you.
