Legal Question in Personal Injury in Canada
lawyer bill
If a lawyer has not billed me for four years, (because i understood it to be pro bono). Then prior to trial he asks for large retainer because trial may cost $30-$60k.(Also because he discovered that he no case with the insurance company and must sue my assailant personally) I refuse because this wasn't original understanding. There is no contract between us.He files motion to dismiss himself as my lawyer and sends me a bill for $42k. Am I liable?

Re: lawyer bill
It depends to some extent on your Province of residence and the rules applicable to lawyers in that Province; please feel free to re-submit your question but you must include your postal code - if it in the Provionce this firm practices your question will be dealt with, and if not it will be rejected as "wrong state".
