Legal Question in Personal Injury in Canada

Personal Injury lawsuit due to Drunk Driver - added info

It's been 9years in the gathering stages of my husbands lawsuit after doctors, lawyer, ins, mounds upon mounds of papers...he was hit by a drunk driver, we don't even know if that man was charged. Anyway they went to Discovery once (2 years ago) & twice, the defendants lawyer didn't have all the papers so they post poned it (that was a year + ago) now they are going to Discovery again soon, is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Could the settlement be close after that or are we in for an even longer ride? Is there a cap on how long a case can go for? It would be nice for this all to be over... Any thoughts would be great..

Happended in Alberta, but what would the time be in BC?

In B.C. normally a case would come to trial in 3 to 5 years, but this is only a very rough estimate, as much depends on the recovery time - you don't want to go to trial before the future is reasonably well known. In Alberta we have no idea of the time it normally takes to get to trial.
