Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Canada

Calculation of Time

In a real estate contract for the purchase of a house from the person who lives in it, the buyer must do certain things on or before November 1, 2003, which is a Saturday.

When does the time expire?

Re: Calculation of Time

Normally the time expires on the day stated. Weekends and holidays do not create a special situation unless what needs to be done requires attendance at an office that is not normally open on the weekend or holiday (such as registering title). The Interpretation Act of BC says: "If the time for doing an act in a business office falls or expires on a day when the office is not open during regular business hours the time is extended to the next day that the office is open."

If your question concerns removing conditions such as financing or building inspection, then normally time expires on the day stated in the contract.
