Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Canada

When is a house actually sold?

I have been residing in a house for the past six months and title is still in my name. Is the sale of the house actually on the date that I sign over the documents? What can happen if I decide not to sell?

Re: When is a house actually sold?

The house is sold when the owner agrees in acontract in writing for valuable consideration (deposit) to sell. Title passes when the transfer is registered. If you have acontract and want to back out you must negotiate a termination of the contract and return the deposit. You can be sued for specific performance and costs.
