Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Canada

I was disinherited in my fathers' will. The other 5 children were left his estate. I was left out because I am gay. He lived and died in Alberta, Canada. Can I contest his will?

If he died in British Columbia and the will was probated here, we would say you have a good chance of success in contesting the will, but we can not express an opinion on the situation in Alberta because our firm does not practice there. You should refer your question to an Alberta lawyer who may be able to answer your question, but whether or not he or she will do so initially on a no fee basis we do not know. You can obtain a referral from the Lawyer Referral Service at 1-800-661-1095 or 403-228-1722 (Calgary). There is usually a short consultation provided at little, if any, expense.
