how long after a person dies, do you open and read the will?

The will is effective from the time of death and the executor has the power and authority granted in the will from the time of death. Therefore, the will should be opened as soon as possible after the death. There is no legal requirement fo a reading of the will in the sense of having a meeting of the beneficiaries or the family to disclose the contents.
