Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado
income tax burden for the past two years of marriage
I have income tax that is due but the petitioner doesn't want to be responsible for anything but theirown. Are there any precedents in this state regarding responsibility of income tax? Even if the petitioner has filed ''married but seperate.''

State law is generally not relevant to federal taxes. S/he can probably do the taxes as you describe. The IRS may be able to handle your more specific questions. How the tax liability is handled may be relevant to the division of assets and debts, i.e. the judge may take it into consideration. If she is willing to negotiate on this and the other issues in your divorce, mediation may be helpful.
