Legal Question in Business Law in Colorado
I am 19% owner of a landscape supply company. My employment was recently terminated, what are my rights?
1 Answer from Attorneys
That depends on considerably more facts about the termination and your agreement with the company. Is this company an LLC, corporation, or partnership? Did you have a written operating, shareholder, or partnership agreement? If you did not have a written agreement, did you have an oral agreement (what people generally term a verbal agreement) on your rights and duties, in particular about any rights related to employment?
As to the termination, are you a member of a protected class (race, gender, age, so on)? What was the reason for the termination? Even if you had no written or oral agreement discussed in the first paragraph, did you have a separate agreement regarding employment such as one that had a set term, termination only for cause, so on?
As discussed above, this is a complex matter and it requires that you provide considerably more facts and relevant documents, if any. You really should speak with a business attorney as soon as possible.
