Legal Question in Business Law in Colorado

Hello! I'd appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction. I have been divorced for many years but still retain my ex's surname. I am thinking of getting into radio, and would like to use a name that is not connected to any bad memories. I'd go back to my maiden name, but my dad was abusive and I don't particularly want that name either, which is also hard to pronounce. I'd like to adopt for my radio work a totally different last name, kind of like John Wayne and John Denver did. Do I just need to set up a DBA, or is there something else I need to do? Thanks so much.

As long as you are using a name for legitimate purposes, you can use that name without filing anything in Court. If you wanted to change your name, then that would have to be done through court.

I hope this helps!
