Legal Question in Business Law in Colorado
No product pick-ups
I am the owner of a small business. The problem I have is; If a customer drops off an item i.e. lawn mower etc. for repair, and I notify them several times that the item is finished, plus I have a sign posted in my shop.
The sign states " Any item left over 30 days will be sold or charged storage"
Can I legally sell or charge storage fees after the posted time?
I've tried to find the answer many times before, and gave up,
Thank you for any help.

Re: No product pick-ups
You may legally assess a reasonable fee for storage after 30 days after notifying the owner that the item is ready provided you have previously notified him in writing of your storage policy.
You may retain possession of the item until the bill is paid.
Getting a lien against the item and foreclosing on the lien to enable you to sell it is complicated, costly, and not something you should attempt the first time.
