Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Colorado
Civil liberties?
A dear friend and colleague has been detained by immigration. He was working with me without legal documentation. I have begun a support letter writing campaign for his case. The owner of our establishment has disallowed the staff to write letters supporting the undocumented worker; insinuating that our jobs will be in danger if we do so. I believe this is a violation of our civil rights, is it not? And if so, what should I do?

Re: Civil liberties?
Call the ACLU. Your employer has the right to terminate you for cause if your letters indicate anything more than personal support: that is, you can't imply the company is backing up your colleague.
Also, you should know that in Colorado an employer does not need cause to fire you, if you are not working under contract.
Good luck, to you and all your colleagues.
