Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Colorado
Stolen Car
I have a car loan in my name. I let a friend of mine borrow my car for awhile. Now I want my car returned to me. I have asked for my car to be retuned to me numerous times. I do not want my friend to use my car anymore and he refuses to give me my car back.
Can I report this car stolen? Do I have a right to go and get my car off his property? What are my rights?

Re: Stolen Car
The car is not technically stolen.
If it's a problem to go onto his property (probably), wait until he leaves the house, follow him to the supermarket, take your car back and change the locks.
If he takes it again, then it's truly a stolen car. Next time, don't lend your car to a jerk.
Re: Stolen Car
You may retake your car peacefully. You may not trespass or otherwise break the law to do it, but if you can obtain possession of the car without a breach of the peace or a violation of the law you are legally entitled to do so. You may also report him to the police. The crime is larceny by a bailee. Good luck.
