copywrite on historical facts/events?

i am building a website that will include a timeline of historical events. Are there any copywrite issues I should worry about related to adding historical events?

It depends on how far back you're going and what you intend to post. There are several good websites that explain how to calculate the duration of coverage. I also focus on all areas of the law affecting Internet startups.

Facts are not protected by copyright law.

Be cautious about your sources, however. A biography or history book, for example, is more than a mere collection of facts. It also contains protected expression, which cannot be copied without permission.

A good practice is to verify all facts you're going to publish on your site from multiple sources.. the more the better, but write the text of your site yourself... don't copy from your source material.
