Release of interest letter (letter of understanding)?

I have developed a software product in my free time. I want to make sure that my company does not try to claim rights to the product at a later point in time. How should I do this? Is there some sort of 'release of interest' letter or 'letter of understanding'?

First I would need to know if you have any agrEEments in place with you employer concerning rights to IP or software. Any employee manual or handbook?

Need also to know company's areas of business./
