Legal Question in Construction Law in Colorado

Filing Liens

We need to file a lien on a customer that has not payed the final amount due of around 9,000 dollars. We provided dirt work and construction of a metal building and have completed the project. Is a mechanics lien what we need to file? Where do we begin and do you know approximately how much it will cost to begin and maintain?. Do we do it ourselves or hire a lawyer? Thank you so much for answering these questions for me.

Re: Filing Liens

You do not need an attorney to prepare and file a mechanic's lien, but if you have never done so before, it is recommended that you get legal advise. If the lien law is not strictly followed, you can lose your rights to forclose under the lien and could be subject to monetary penalties.
