Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Colorado

I co-own a home (with mortgage) with my brother-in-law in CO. He has unpaid medical bills. If those remain unpaid, can a lien be placed on the home? I have it set that if he passes away, the home automatically is switched to my name, no probate needed for that. Would the lien disappear in that case too since the medical bills are not my debt?

Yes and no. A judgment lien can be attached to the house and the lien will not disappear if he dies. The lien will still be attached to your house until it expires - even if you receive his interest after his death. If his interest has a lien attached then you will receive the lien when you receive his interest in the house.
