The debt collectors actions may have violated the FDCPA and the related Colorado Act. Read about them here http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs27-debtcoll.htm and http://www.coloradoattorneygeneral.gov/departments/consumer_protection/uccc_cab/cab/consumer_rights_information_english.
You should contact an attorney or learn the law to protect your rights. You also may have a right to sue them for violations.
