Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Colorado

Inter-state Small Claims Court

Do I go to Colorado small claim court to file a claim against a business in the state of Virginia? A catalog company in Virginia cashed my check in October 2000 and have not delivered merchandise nor refunded monies paid. They make it very difficult to speak to anyone, do not return phone calls, nor correct mistakes made.

Re: Inter-state Small Claims Court

If you did business with the Virgina business in Colorado, it is may be possible to file the small claims action in Colorado. You will have to serve the business, most likely in VA. Furthermore, if you obtain a judgment you will have to file it in VA and execute it there, unless there are assets in Colorado.

Obtaining jurisdiction over an out of state business can be tricky though.
