Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

1000 dollar ski theft

I sold a set of skis on craigslist that had beeen deliverd to my ski shop that had not been claimed for 3 months. the skis value is 800 ... I went home to ohio instead of turning myself in a warrant was issued for theft over 1000 making it a felony. they got my e mail so they have proof i took skis .. they are saying i sold other items on craigslist making it over 1000 so they could get a warrant nationally. they dont have proof of that because i never took anything else .. i used craigslist for personal items.. but i never sold anything on craigslist at all but skis .. they want me to turn myself in hear and said i could be bailed out.. but i dotn want to be extradited i would rather turn myself in by flying back so the charges would not be as severe... she said they wouldnt extradite me if i got a bails bondsman here and i might be able to be tried over phone... i have not said i was guilty to anything but i did however sell the skis i just dotn want to be charged for a felony because they added random stuff on my warrant to make it so they can get me interstate.. should i turn myself in here or will they just send me back no matter what?

turning yourself in here will give a free flight home if they decide to pay for you to be brought back to the state of the crime...you are not going to be able to fight this without going directly there eventually....a lawyer might be able to make calls for you but you will have to go there eventually....obviously, if someone has paid for those ski's you need to make sure that person gets it...

I would advise you to come back to CO asap and turn yourself in, post the bond and take care of this. You cannot be tried over the phone and it sounds like you are already charged with a felony because a court issued a felony arrest warrant. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help.
