Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
1st time offender, Shoplifting
I have just charged with shoplifting and received a Summon from the officer. My scheduled court date is on Aug 9th.
I am wondering if I should pay the fine ($100) or I should go to court?
I have no prior criminal record and current applying for a greencard. So, I really don't want to have a criminal record which will ruin my greencard application.
I heard people say usually 1st offense will get a probation without having a criminal record. Is that true? I know I made a really bad decision for doing stupid thing... you think the judge would usually give 1st offenders second chance?

It is possible that a conviction for shoplifting could prevent you from getting a green card, citizenship and even could subject you to deportation and no re-entry. You should go to court and make sure that you do not get deported etc.
