Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Under $500 theft.

I am 18 with no prior offenses and got a theft charge of about $200. I want to know what the punishment is for in El Paso County and if there are any options. thanks.

Re: Under $500 theft.

Theft where the value is 100-500 dollars is a class 2 misdemeanor. The max is 12 months jail/$1000 fine. If you were a juvenile at the time of offense, you may get diversion (deferred prosecution). If an adult, you likely will get a deferred judgment (that can later be sealed) with restitution and UPS (community service). OR you may have a defense. If so, you may go to trial.
