Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

accused of home theft

My spouse helped a friend move out of her house. She did not have room in the moving truck for all her belongings. He stayed after she left and other friends of hers came by for this and that. He had a yard sale and made a small amount of money which he sent her. He believes her house was being foreclosed as she asked him to store some items in our garage she could not leave them there , her house would be taken over by a real estate agent. It has been 7 months. She came back only a couple months later and said her house was ransacked and called the police. The insurance company contacted us and my spouse could not agree with the things she claimed were missing. She has left very angry calls on the phone and has threatened to press charges for theft. We still have the items in the garage. The insurance company did not pay her what she felt she was owed. She wants thousands from him. He was doing the right thing in helping a single woman and it has turned very bad. I also want the items out of the garage but she is in another state, and I don't know what to do with that either. Should I get a lawyer? I believe she needs money badly.

Re: accused of home theft

Sounds like you're in the pre-lawyer stage right now: she's just ranting and threatening. Offer to ship her the items if she will pre-pay for the shipping. Offer to have her arrange some other way to get them, at her expense. Offer to hold another garage sale and take a commission on the sale and send her the rest.

Good luck.
