Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Background checks and sealing records
I was arrested and charged with a shoplifting misdemeanor in a municipal court a year ago.
I completed my requirements for a deferred judgement and my guilty plea and sentence were vacated and charges were dismissed.
I would like to know if this will show up on pre-employment background checks. I already searched my name on cocourts and CBI and nothing came up. If there is still a chance that this could show up in a background check, how do I go about getting my record sealed?

Re: Background checks and sealing records
Either call the clerk of your district court, or go to this web site:
http://www.courts.state.co.us/chs/court/forms/sealingofrecords/sealingofrecords.htm
Make sure you read the instructions on the web site. Denver has different rules. Outside Denver, I believe you can actually file it from the site.
The filing fee is $136.
Good luck.
