Re: Bad lawyering

The answer depends on the type of offense. If the conviction was for a felony of the first class, you can file certain motions for relief. If a COV, a very slim chance at other relief may be available. Further, re-integration may be proper. The defendant's case manager may be helpful. You say "9 years ago, a person received a sentence..." If that is true, if sentencing was held 4/7/1999 or earlier, and sentence was 30 years (a real 30, not 30yrs conseq to 12 years conseq to 8 years), with CTS, earned time, good time, and time served, the defendant should be out by now. Anyway: no relief if you don't know how to work the system. Even if you do know, there may be no relief out there.
