Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Bench Warrant

If a bench warrant was issued for a person under a former married name, will it show on DMV under a maiden name or a current married name?

Three years ago a bench warrant (3rd deg. misdemeanor) was issued under my former married name. At that time I was legally using my maiden name. Since then I moved out of state, got a license in that state (KY) and then moved back to Colorado. I wan't to get my Colorado license, but I am not sure if they are going to see the bench warrant.

Re: Bench Warrant

Hello:

Actually, the DMV has nothing to do with the maintenance of warrant records and information; rather, the warrant information is stored in the Colorado Crime Information Computer (CCIC), which is maintained by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. When a police officer contacts you, he runs your name through the computer system looking for a warrant.

There are several ways a person with a warrant can be entered into the computer: By name, by social security number, by driver's license number, etc. Also, a person's alias names and maiden names can be cross-referenced to give the office a "hit" when they are entered into the computer. So, in theory, a warrant could be entered in the computer in either or both of the names. David Colt 303-321-6872
