my son was arrested in 1983, for theft. he paid his fine and did probation, and was told it was deferred.In dec. his wife turned him in for possesion of a firearm by a felon. he has bought guns legally, since then. the D.A. in Co. wants to settle for $500 and 3 yrs. probation and he can not ever own a gun. my ? is. can he get out of this and own a gun again? He is an avid hunter. his d.o.b. 12-09-1964

If it was deferred and he met all requirements of the deferred, it should have been dismissed, so the POWPO charge should not succeed. Fight it. Get counsel. Yes, if he takes the DA deal he will be a convicted felon forever.
