Deferred Judgment/Job Application
I pled guilty to a felony charge 6 years ago under a deferred judgement agreement. The felony charge was dismissed 17 months ago. The job application I am filling out asks, ''Have you been convicted of a felony within the last 7 years? Yes or No. What is the correct answer?

On a deferred, the case was dismissed, and so there is no conviction. HOWEVER: Since you have not sealed the record, the employer is going to find it in a pre-employment background screen. That said, employers never read down to "disposition". That dispo should show "Dismissed", but the employer will never read that far. You can answer no conviction, but have the minute order showing dismissal handy. That way, any question can be answered by "read the Court order."
