Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
dollar amount changed on my check
Hi.
I wrote a $3 check to a lady for homemade salsa. It went through my bank account for $30. The check was altered from $3 to $30 and was wondering what legal rights I have. It in turn was written for more than I had in my account at the time and I was charged a $34 overdraft fee. I have spoke to her and she is stating she didn't do it that someone at the bank must have done it. Please help and advise!

Sounds like the salsa lady did a little dance on your checkbook. You might ask her to return your money and let the bank know she made a mistake, in return for your agreement not to let the police know about her check fraud.
It's difficult to see how the written word "three" could be mistaken for "thirty," if it's written in English.
If she didn't personally cash the check, she certainly had reason to know (or has reason now) that she was paid too much.
You also might ask the bank to take a look at the check and explain how that mistake was made.
