How long do you have to file a charge of domestic violence against a spouse

Domestic violence is not a charge; it is a sentence enhancer. Generally, for misdemeanors (like assault) prosecutors would have a year and a half from the date of the offense; for felonies, three years.
But I wouldn't worry about the window of opportunity to charge someone who beats you; he or she will do it again.
