Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

''Driver license revocation in another state''

Hello. I was convicted of a 3rd dwai in colorado on 6-14-01. My drivers license was revoked for a period of 5 years. I am eligible for for early reinstatement on 11-4-02 with an interlock devise. I moved to Phoenix, Az. 2 months ago, and colorado DMV told me that I can only drive with the interlock device in the state of colorado. Is this correct? It is incomprehencable to me that they can keep me imprisoned in that state in order for me to drive. I have completed everything I was required to do including alcohohol classes. Can I get a drivers license or even a restricted license in arizona when I'm eligible for the reinstatement in colorado? Thank you for your time

Re: ''Driver license revocation in another state''

You have no choice but to comply with the CO requirements for the reinstatement of your license. Unless you have a clearance letter from CO, AZ will not issue you any kind of license. Investigate sources for an interlock device in AZ and communicate with CO and see if they will let you have one installed and drive in AZ the same as you could in CO.
