Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
I failed to appear as a witness due to conflicting school schedule, I now have a warrant for my arrest and agreed to show up the next day? What can I expect?
1 Answer from Attorneys
One of three things (or a combination of the three), depending on how ticked the judge and attorneys are.
The first possibility is simply getting lectured so that you understand how important it is that people respond to court orders (in this case a subpoena).
Possibility two is for the court to issue a show cause order for you to show why the court should not hold you in contempt of court and punish you by up to six months in jail, a fine, both, or some sort or other remedial action(s).
Possibility three is for the court to hold you in custody as a material witness until you testify and/or the trial ends.
