Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

False information

My son just got probation for Domestic Violence in which he was guilty. However, now the girl who charged him has claimed that I have tried to run her off the road and now her and her friend are in fear for their lives. My name is now all over the court system and I have never met this woman. She has lied about several things. This is just one of them. Do I have any recourse? I have never had any dealings with the law and I fear if something happens to her they will come to me.

Re: False information

Sounds like they should be more in fear for their sanity. If she has falsely reported you for a crime, and knows she has (as opposed to just being nuts or so fearful she's not seeing things clearly and really does think you tried to run her off the road), she can be charged with making a false report to the police.

Good luck.

You can sue for defemation, but you will lose much more money than you can win. Your most important recourse is to head off any possible harassment or witness tampering charges. Also, your son is on probation. The easiest route that police or the alleged victim can take is to revoke probation. Fight that with witnesses (always get their names) and your cell phone (cell camera and gps locator service). If there is an effort to revoke probation, let me (or someone who does probation) know as soon as possible.
