Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Possible Felony Theft Charges
I'm under investigation,(I guess) for theft from my employer amounting up to $2600. The store manager interrogated me while the ASM contacted authorities. When the SM asked me about the transactions in question, I did not deny any part of it, however, I did inform that I personally was not reaping the benefits. Local authorities arrived, spoke with management & asked me few questions, cuffed me, and escorted me to jail. Upon arrival there, i was 'booked through' they called it meaning i was printed and photographed and then immediately released without a single document. Two days ago, an investigator left me a message stating he needs to talk me and for me to call him back.
-First, i don't understand the 'booked through' is all about
-Second, the same cop that took me in called me a week after saying that we could clear this up over the phone if i gave him the names of who did benefit, I told him I needed to talk to someone that i didn't know what to do. I guess I want to know what it is i should do now?

Re: Possible Felony Theft Charges
The promises of the cop are not promises to end your case or dismiss your charges. They promise to clear it up. That just helps them clear up the facts, not help you clear your name.
You are facing Felony Theft charges and likely will be charged with felony theft and maybe other charges. You need to get a lawyer to help you through all this.
If you do choose to speak with the cops or DAs again, tape record it and ask specifically if your cooperation will mean that you will not be charged.
Cops can, and will, lie.
Even if you do not profit, you can be charge with theft if you knew a theft was occurring and you did anything to help it occur.
