Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Long story short, my brother is facing life in prison for defending himself. Seven years ago his trial lawyer didn't handle his case very well. (He was 18, no prior convictions, trial was only 5 days long). Other lawyers I have talked to agree that the lawyer we hired lacked good trial skills and ethics. Our options on getting him an appeal are running out. I am now trying to find an affordable lawyer who can file a 35(c) motion. I know that such a case is very expensive, but I don't think that it is fair that he has to sit in prison only because my family isn't wealthy. My question is are there any lawyers you can recommend that can help us with this case, but who are affordable?

You can probably get a 35(c) motion before the Court for $5-10k, depending on the investigation. However, trial counsel who only lacks "good trial skills" is not constitutionally ineffective. There has to be much more. I do these cases regularly, and can tell you about bad conduct that is not held to be in violation of the 6th Amendment.
