hello, iam a student in colorado and iam also a medical patient legally using marijuana for my condition. recently i have been broken in and thousands of dollars of equipment (not drugs) was stolen- along with personal property like ski jackets. i really need to know how i can go about documenting this without really getting the police involved. or should i get them involved? i reaaally need someone to help me figure this out because i need to do something. what are my rights? what can the police do to help? what if i think i might know who broke in?? now what? whats my next move??

Re: medical marijuana and home break ins

Your insurance company will require a police report. If you know who broke in you might talk with them, if you feel it's safe, and persuade them to return your stuff.

Otherwise, why not contact the police, who are in the best position to investigate the theft, and find out if any of the stuff is being sold. Unless of course the reason you mention you are a medical user of marijuana is that you are not on the confidential registry in Colorado and do not have a registration card so signifying.
