Obstructing a Peace Officer
Can I obtain statements from witnesses on my own on my behalf during an investigation of a stabbing or is that, once again, interfering with an investigation?

Re: Obstructing a Peace Officer
If contact with witnesses is made during the res gestae of the incident, the contact may be classified as a continuation of the assault. Further, if you are the defendant, you have to be careful in making any contact with witnesses that may be seen as "witness tampering" or witness intimidation. Advise the Court, in advance, of any planned contact. Hire an investigator. Or, better yet, hire an attorney.
