Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Parole

My son is was sentenced in Colorado to prison, but he doesn't seem to really understand the system. He says he can either do four years in CAPS or four years in prison with a three year mandatory parole. He may go to a boot camp or he may go for reevaluation? Nothing makes sense to him. He has no family there to help him understand and his lawyer is only a public defender that never has time for him, plus he is in a different part of the state so he never sees him. Is this three year mandatory parole after the four years in prison? Do they earn good time during parole in a halfway house like they do prison? He has two dates but don't know what they mean. His first parole date is February 7, 2002 and his release date is May 17, 2005. Do these mean anything?

Re: Parole

You'll need someone licensed to practice law in Colorado to help answer your questions. Concerning the dates my guess is that the first date is the date he'll be eligible to be paroled. The second date is the date of his mandatory release if he refuses parole. More than that I'm as stumped as you are. However, in prison they are used to dealing with very confused young men. And I'm sure they'll explain it very thoroughly so he can make an informed decision.
