When people write letters to the judge asking for sentence reduction, is that letter for the Judge only or do the lawyers have access to it as well?

It is public record. The attorneys get to see it as well; in fact, most courts will forward a copy on to both the defense attorney and the DA.

Once the letter is received by the judge, it goes into the court file, so anyone can access it. The letter does not necessarily get copied to all counsel in the case. If you want a certain attorney to see the letter, send a copy to that person. If you do not want anyone else to see that letter, do not send it to anyone, including the judge.
