prior felony conviction as it pertains to job applications

My husband is 45 and had a prior felony conviction when he was 18. He is applying for jobs and wants to know if this will keep him from being hired. He has heard that his records were sealed after 7 years.

If his felony conviction was in Colorado, it was not sealed. Felony convictions under current law are never sealed, not after 7 or 700 years. He should determine whether the employer does background checks; if so, he should forthrightly explain he made a mistake as a kid and that he's not the same man who made that kid's mistake. A good employer will not hold it against him (unless the conviction was for murdering his boss). If it's not a good employer, your husband doesn't want to work there anyway.
