Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Ramifications of a citation for ''Theft under $500''
A friend recieved a citation for ''Theft Under $500''. He and a friend of his took several bundles of firewood from a store, left it at their car and forgot to pay for it. They went off with other friends in a different car and when they came back police were waiting and issued them the citation.
Is this very serious? A felony, or a misdemeanor? He has no previous record (college student age 22) Does he need a lawyer-if so how much would it cost, and where would he find one. If he pleads guilty (or no contest) to a misdemeanor, is serious in regard to getting a job, etc.?

Theft of items valued more that $100 but less than $500 is a second class misdemeanor. Some programs will not give student loans if the student is convicted of a misdemeanor. What county are you in? You can reach me directly [email protected] 719.277.6626
