If the sentence is complicated, like a deferred judgment or probation, you should have someone to prevent you from being violated and/or revoked for technical violations. Many people do not realize that some agency failed to file a POC until they are arrested (arrest warrants are issued even for minor traffic offenses). Even if it is a paperwork snafu, you still get to spend the night in jail. If the sentence is straight forward (like 10 years prison with no parole hearings for at least 2 1/2 years), you can likely go without help.
