The best way is to negotiate the return with the police, and if they do not respond, with the DA. Don't feel confident no charges will be filed, they have a lot of time to investigate and if they refuse to return the property, you know they are still considering filing charges. It is best to hire an attorney to find out and try to get your property back, never speak directly to the cops as they may try to question you without you knowing it. Good luck.
