Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Sentencing
What is the significants in the ''one day'' involved in sentencing. Example: T.I. was sentenced to a year and one day.
Why 1 day? I've seen this before and have always wondered.

Re: Sentencing
It's mainly because most rappers can find significantly more words to rhyme with "day" than "year."
The legal reason, though, is that a sentence of more than one year makes him eligible for early release, whereas if he had been sentenced to a year or less, he would have had to serve the whole amount.

Re: Sentencing
There are state licensing impacts as well as sentencing impacts if you are sentenced to serve "more than a year". A year and a day = more than a year.
